Hi Tara! I'm also gardening and love listening to your videos where you talk in such detail about how your plants are doing and where they came from and how you are mulling over what will come next and what has been learned. I've missed you! I've been busy with a 3 year old and I'm just now feeling unfuzzy enough to recall that I have interests and needs and a cup that could use some filling. Sometimes it's hard to remember that gardening is my fun and enthusiasm chasing time. Honestly, I started the project with more of a practical need. But when I get into it, it makes me happy and I try not to worry so much about if it will work and just enjoy the process. I thought I was going to be a calm, cool and pragmatic mom but the world and the task of raising my son in it is far more complicated than I thought I was mentally prepared for. Hooray for doing our best!🥴 I've still got my compass.

Thanks so much Camille! I'm so glad that you enjoy the gardening videos - I love making them! I won’t mind my Art being a business but would need to leave my job to do it. Don’t think I’m ready for that yet so my sister in law talked in into showing my Artwork at a festival and I’m stressing about doing something wrong for selling items. Yay! I’ve heard people say the first one is slower than the others, but I enjoyed it a lot.

Tara, I'm so glad you're getting back to reading the Inspector Gamache series! I've been reading them in order for awhile and am now in the middle of The Great Reckoning #12. They're so well written, with wonderful character development, intricate plots, and surprising elements as the human condition is explored throughout solving murders.

I just read Abandoned in Death (the most recent in the series) this morning! I started reading them back when there were only…3? or so books, and I like them a lot. I’ve really enjoyed the development of different characters (and addition of new ones) over time. I did a reread of the entire 50+ books last year when my brain wasn’t up to reading new books.

Oh my gosh! That’s so awesome to know they are good enough to REREAD 50!! I guess it’s going on my list!

I've read the entire In Death series. It's one of my favourites. I have the shirt of the Anne of Green Gables book too! The fabric is so pretty!

I always appreciate you sharing your journey over the years of following you. I think our life is like a Starship. No matter what your goals/activities are we are always exploring, learning, and growing. And even when we re-visit the same places (like our experience of depression) it might feel the same but we are exploring and learning new and deeper ways to cope and thrive. You’ve got this, it’s hard but you aren’t alone. I also used books as my coping throughout my life. It’s very disassociated feeling. Maybe check out Kati Morton’s videos about disassociation and maladaptive daydreaming. It really describes my experience of maladaptive reading, and I appreciate her suggestions. I’m constantly trying to find the balance between reading for fun/learning and for escape. I’ve also heard great things about Better Health. I haven’t tried it myself but it sounds flexible and helpful in finding the right fit and being online will give you more options for possible providers.

And as for how much I read correlating with my mental health I am very much in binge/starve cycle. I struggle to read and do daily like at the same time. So I am often afraid of reading because I don’t trust that I can balance it in a healthy way. If I start a book I won’t be able to come back up for air until I’ve read every book in the series, no sleep, no eating, my whole life on hold. That’s why when I’m feeling a bit better I’m mostly only reading non-fiction. Since that is something I can pick up and put down. And when I’m not we’ll I gravitate to long fantasy series so that I can escape reality.

Thanks for sharing your experiences Jacqueline! I looked into Better Help and it’s no more affordable than therapy in my area…but it may be in places the cost of living is higher. I wonder if finding some other coping strategies (with a therapist) might help change your relationship with reading? I wish you the best on this journey!
